About the Role
You will manage teams of engineers, contributing to both the technical and product vision of their teams to ensure product success. You will nurture engineering talent, encourage personal development, manage performance, and align teams with product delivery objectives. While not hands-on with code, you will guide technical discussions with a big-picture perspective. You will collaborate with clients, product managers, and client success teams to deliver value, and work with engineers and peers to drive the technical roadmap and strategy. You will champion operational excellence and remove impediments for your team.
Responsibilities
- Manage teams of engineers, up to 10 direct reports.
- Contribute to the technical and product vision of your teams.
- Nurture engineering talent, encouraging personal development and managing performance.
- Ensure teams are aligned with product delivery objectives.
- Guide technical discussions with a big-picture context.
- Work closely with clients, product managers, and client success teams to ensure value delivery.
- Contribute to and drive the technical roadmap and strategy.
- Champion operational excellence within your area.
- Remove impediments and unblock your team to meet product delivery objectives.
- Travel as part of commercial and deployment activities (4-6 business trips per year).
Requirements
- Existing right to work in the UK.
- Experience in an Engineering Management or related role working with high performing cross-functional teams.
- Passion for growing and mentoring engineers.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong, positive relationships with clients.
- Fundamental understanding of Agile and lean development principles.
- Excellent understanding of a broad set of modern technologies, especially event-based systems like Kafka.
- Excellent communication skills and experience working with senior leaders.
- Background in client-facing roles, including solutions engineering or consulting, with ability to translate complex client needs into technical solutions.
- Experience transforming software engineering teams and practices through AI, ML, and/or LLMs (preferred).
