About the Role
Provides direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients in the endoscopy setting, functioning as part of a team to meet patient, family, physician, and staff needs for quality, efficient, and cost-effective care.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures with and without anesthesia or sedation.
- Initiates proactive nursing interventions that minimize negative outcomes.
- Communicates appropriately with peers, management, physicians, patients, and family members, maintaining confidentiality.
- Appropriately documents care provided.
- Promotes, provides, and documents patient and family education and discharge teaching.
- Ensures proper use of Universal Precautions and principles of aseptic and sterile technique.
- Implements safe practices and provides knowledgeable guidance and evaluation of environment of care management, including infection control, safe medical equipment use, and life safety code adherence.
- Participates in orientation, continuing education, staff meetings, and performance improvement activities.
- Accepts additional responsibilities such as supply ordering, staff education and training, and quality assurance monitoring.
- Assists in creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and support.
- Acts as a professional role model to staff and others.
- Promotes teamwork and maintains focus on the patient as the priority.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current licensure in New York State.
- Minimum of 1 year related acute care experience.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
- Participates in orientation and continuing education.
- Updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to care of endoscopy patients.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as physician orders, laboratory results, safety rules, operating and technical instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write and type routine reports and correspondence.
- Must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds.
- Requires ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, reach, hear, talk, and type on a keyboard.
