About the Role
Generate Canada is seeking a Senior Director of External Relations to lead the organization's external engagement and influence strategies. This role supports the cultivation of funders and collaborators across various sectors to advance thought leadership and expand the reach of Generate Canada and its Solution Spaces.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a thought leadership strategy to position Generate Canada, its Solution Spaces, and partners as credible sources of expertise.
- Identify, support, and engage leaders, policymakers, academics, and other collaborators in developing events and communications.
- Support leaders in commissioning, shaping, and promoting research, reports, Op-eds, and speaking opportunities.
- Partner with Solution Space leaders to identify and amplify insights from ongoing convening.
- Design, coordinate, and lead government engagement, fostering dialogue with officials across all levels of government.
- Monitor relevant policy and legislative developments and provide actionable briefings.
- Represent Generate Canada in government and multi-stakeholder policy forums.
- Support Solution Space leaders in preparing for government meetings, consultations, and submissions.
- Build and maintain a structured map of government relationships and a coordinated engagement calendar.
- Cultivate and steward corporate, association, and foundation partnerships for financial and in-kind support.
- Partner with leadership to develop tools, policies, and systems for contributor recognition, partnership pipelines, and stewardship.
- Develop Generate Canada and its Solution Spaces’ case for support to reinforce value propositions and aid in tailoring proposals.
- Support the strengthening of policies, systems, and tools for consistent organizational coordination.
- Work closely with Solution Spaces to amplify outreach efforts and harness expertise and networks.
- Contribute to Board and funder reporting on external affairs impact and progress.
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressively senior experience in government relations, public policy, communications, and/or partnerships/development; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior government officials.
- Proven success securing and stewarding significant corporate, philanthropic, or blended-finance partnerships.
- Excellent written, public speaking, and media/stakeholder communication skills.
- Confidence representing the organization publicly.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in Canada and currently reside in Canada.
