About the Role
Supervise assigned programs and staff, integrating a safe environment with individual client treatment plans.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment in the assigned residential program, including purchasing supplies.
- Direct child care workers to adhere to agency policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in client service plan reviews and direct staff implementation of treatment plans.
- Develop program routines and schedules in compliance with agency policy.
- Participate in budget development and ensure compliance with income and expenses.
- Participate in 24-hour on-call procedures for crisis management, available to arrive on campus within 45 minutes if needed.
- Interview and recommend new staff hires, coordinating hiring, resignation, and termination tasks with Human Resources.
- Oversee orientation and training for new staff assigned to the program.
- Participate as a trainer for agency training programs, specifically TCI and Sanctuary Modules.
- Supervise all child care and staff assigned to the program.
- Plan and co-lead weekly staff meetings, ensuring minutes are taken.
- Facilitate or ensure weekly resident "kids meetings" are scheduled, conducted, and documented.
- Participate in professional development training, including client skills development.
- Provide direct child care services and direct observation of staff, including evening and weekend hours.
- Monitor program compliance with budgetary, human resource, purchasing, and other agency requirements.
- Conduct monthly fire drills according to regulatory requirements.
- Ensure reliable information is provided to clinical, educational, and psychiatric staff regarding behavioral observations.
- Facilitate family or client visits and arrange supervision and transportation when needed.
- Actively participate in agency committees, including Management Team and The Behavior Support Team.
- Ensure trauma-informed care and Behavior Support Management expectations are communicated and implemented.
- Review and investigate Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Reports, Incident/Accident Reports, and Complaint Forms, documenting findings and recommendations.
- Actively participate in program and agency-wide Quality Assessment and Improvement activities.
- Actively engage in Integration meetings and program supervisor meetings for collaboration.
- Perform related tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency with one year of experience working with children and/or families (two years preferred).
- One year of supervisory experience required.
- Commitment to following and embracing the Seven Commitments of the Sanctuary Model.
- Strong understanding of developmental milestones related to childhood and adolescence.
- Demonstrated knowledge of behavior treatment and social skills development of youth in residential settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of critical variables in creating a safe and successful therapeutic environment.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to form effective relationships with youth in care.
- Ability to engage in collaborative working relationships with agency staff, professionals from other agencies, and regulatory bodies.
- Strong emphasis placed on prior supervisory experience.
- Understanding of basic needs and developmental issues of children that promotes growth and respects individuality.
- Strong understanding of and ability to teach trauma-informed care.
- Asks age and developmentally appropriate questions and actively listens to children’s responses.
- Develops a warm, positive, nurturing relationship with each child.
- Follows mandated reporting requirements regarding child abuse and neglect.
- Practices infection control, including appropriate hand washing procedures.
- Supports staff in applying knowledge of child development and learning in daily practice.
- Guides staff in using interactions that support children’s social emotional development.
- Ensures staff are trained to plan and implement developmentally appropriate treatment plans.
- Valid New York State Driver’s license.
