About the Role
The Director of Groups will provide strategic leadership, commercial vision, and operational oversight to maximize group room revenues, drive corporate retreat bookings, and elevate private group experiences. This role requires a visionary sales leader with exceptional commercial acumen, refined interpersonal skills, and a passion for maintaining the "flâneur" spirit through high-level client relationships, bespoke group itineraries, and flawless guest execution.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute long-term sales strategies across corporate groups, executive retreats, high-net-worth social gatherings, and luxury group segments to exceed revenue targets.
- Evaluate group business opportunities based on total revenue contribution, catering spend, and displacement value to protect profitability and rate integrity.
- Partner with Revenue Management to establish dynamic pricing, group room block parameters, and demand strategies during peak and need periods.
- Analyze market intelligence, competitive positioning, and industry trends to position the property's guest rooms, private spaces, and public areas effectively.
- Champion the hotel’s artistic identity, design narrative, and cultural ethos across all group proposals, site inspections, and partner showcases.
- Architect customized group itineraries and luxury event concepts that spark curiosity, elevate the guest journey, and differentiate the hotel in the Manhattan market.
- Partner with the Guest Experience and F&B teams to curate bespoke VIP setups, custom arrival touchpoints, and memorable "surprise and delight" experiences for major group accounts.
- Build and nurture high-value relationships with key corporate buyers, luxury travel networks, incentive planners, and executive decision-makers.
- Personally manage and expand share within key group accounts while aggressively driving new account acquisition.
- Represent the hotel at high-profile industry events, luxury travel showcases, and client engagements to enhance brand visibility and market presence.
- Lead, coach, and inspire the group sales team, fostering a high-performance culture rooted in professional warmth, accountability, and luxury excellence.
- Define and enforce key performance indicators across sales conversion, lead response time, and group pipeline velocity.
- Work seamlessly with Revenue Management, Marketing, Food & Beverage, and Hotel Operations to align commercial efforts and ensure operational delivery matches the sales promise.
- Manage departmental group budgets, annual sales plans, quarterly group forecasts, and sales pipeline targets while maintaining luxury margins.
- Oversee contract execution, deposit schedules, attrition policies, and credit guidelines in accordance with company standards.
- Track, analyze, and communicate client feedback and group sales metrics to drive continuous operational and revenue performance.
- Uphold rigorous safety, data security, and confidentiality protocols for corporate guests, VIPs, and client accounts within all sales operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Significant sales leadership experience specializing in group sales within luxury, boutique, or five-star hospitality settings.
- Strong commercial instinct with proven ability to analyze displacement, evaluate group profitability, and negotiate complex agreements.
- Exceptional strategic planning, analytical, negotiation, and refined interpersonal abilities.
- A keen eye for design, art, and the "intentional details" that define modern luxury travel.
- Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and lead effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Flexible schedule required, including travel, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to host key group clients and support 24/7 hotel operations.
