About the Role
Responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Medical College’s operating budget, as well as creating and maintaining financial models and schedules to support departmental budgeting and reporting needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of the WCM annual operating budget and associated policies and guidelines.
- Gather industry or peer data for comparison and best practices.
- Administer departmental budgets and implement them into the enterprise financial system.
- Prepare and distribute institutional allocations, including related schedules for funding sources.
- Update and maintain changes to allocations as necessary.
- Maintain budget databases and models for allocations and trending analysis.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of monthly revenues and expense reports for WCM’s operating budget.
- Analyze reports for data integrity, variances, trends, and cyclical events.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of budget models and tools for forecasting.
- Prepare presentations and financial materials for meetings with WCM senior leadership, Board of Trustees, Board of Overseers, and Business and Finance Committees.
- Meet with financial officers from institutional departments on budgetary requests or issues.
- Communicate and explain budget policies to ensure adherence to Medical College policies and standards.
- Develop and maintain monthly budget vs. actual reports.
- Analyze variances and identify and rectify budget discrepancies.
- Escalate unresolved issues as needed.
- Prepare and update various schedules of institutional resources, including endowments, scholarships, and research funds.
- Perform funding and transfer mechanisms, including revenue/expense transfers and funding of institutional subsidies.
- Prepare ad-hoc budget/financial reports as requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Finance, economics or related degree is preferred.
- Approximately 2-3 years of financial analysis, finance, or budgeting experience.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (vlookups, pivot tables) and MS Access.
- Experience with databases and reporting software.
- Budget-related experience in a higher education institution is highly desired.
- Fund accounting knowledge is helpful.
- Experience with an enterprise resource planning system such as SAP, Oracle or PeopleSoft is a plus.

- Ability to interact with multiple constituencies and faculty/staff from all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and diplomatically in a high-pressure, complex environment.

- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Immediate to expert knowledge with Excel and PowerPoint.
