About the Role
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports and collaborates with the Registered Nurse by providing direct care to psychiatric patients. The role involves patient care activities and milieu management.
Responsibilities
- Organize and implement group activities in conjunction with the unit program and other staff.
- Perform procedures associated with activities of daily living and personal hygiene of the patient.
- Demonstrate a humanistic and caring attitude.
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of desired effects and side effects of psychotropic medications.
- Establish and foster collegial relationships with peers and other disciplines.
- Promote an environment that is sensitive to cultural diversity.
- Demonstrate therapeutic skills in crisis intervention.
- Perform supplemental components of the nursing admission.
- Recognize changes in a patient's mental status and share findings with the primary nurse.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English in a clear and concise manner.
- Orientation toward consumer satisfaction.
- Physical stamina, manual dexterity, and visual and aural acuity to perform duties.
Skills
- EKG experience preferred
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- Therapeutic skills in crisis intervention

- BS or 60 credits towards BS in a related field preferred
