About the Role
The School Age Childcare - Before and After School Staff is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for school-age children before and after school. This role involves supervising play, ensuring children's safety, and promoting positive social interactions in accordance with program licensing. Staff will lead, engage, and support daily curriculum in a program licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Responsibilities
- Actively monitor and care for school-age children.
- Maintain a clean, secure, and child-friendly environment.
- Follow all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Support the program by helping to develop, plan and implement daily lesson plans and activities.
- Organize and lead age-appropriate activities such as games, arts and crafts, activities, story time, and free play.
- Provide active supervision in special areas including swimming, ice skating, gymnasium activities, and outdoor/playground play.
- Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere among children.
- Provide comfort and basic care for children as needed.
- Greet parents/guardians and manage check-in and check-out procedures.
- Communicate any concerns, behavioral issues, or incidents promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with supervisors and other staff to support child care program standards.
- Sanitize toys, equipment, and play areas regularly in compliance with health standards.
- Monitor supply inventory and inform supervisor of needs.
- Follow all facility policies, licensing regulations, and COVID-19 safety protocols if applicable.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent requested.
- Anyone not holding a high school diploma or equivalent or under 18 will need to work with other staff and not be left alone at any time with children until that staff member's 18th birthday.
- Experience in child care, babysitting, or early childhood education preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Undergo fingerprinting, background checks, TB testing, and provide Medical history within the last 2 years.
- Complete a 5-hour Health and Safety training prior to the start of work in the classroom.
- Complete 15 hours of training in required topic areas within the first six months of employment.

- Reliable, punctual, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
