Responsibilities
- Perform grounds maintenance duties including mowing, trimming, edging, path maintenance, weeding, raking, pest control, facility maintenance, landscape installation, watering, pruning, firewood production, and snow/ice removal.
- Operate vehicles and powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, bucket loaders, twin-axle vehicles, snowplows, chainsaws, trimmers, edgers, pole saws, snow blowers, and aerators.
- Cultivate, plant, transplant, seed, water, stake, prune, dead-head, weed, rake, edge, mulch, harvest, and attend to landscapes, small trees, groundcovers, shrubs, pathways, and annual/perennial beds.
- Haul garden debris, clear brush, and remove litter.
- Use hand tools like shovels, pruners, rakes, forks, hoes, wheelbarrows, sprayers, and hoses for landscaping tasks.
- Maintain or repair tools, equipment, buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches using hand or power tools.
- Inspect and address plant diseases, pests, and wildlife damage.
- Collaborate with staff to maintain assigned landscape areas.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain tools and equipment.
- Acquire and maintain basic horticultural and plant knowledge.
- Maintain assigned grounds equipment and inventories.
- Assist in the installation of lawn and landscape projects.
- Analyze and recommend grounds methods, equipment, and plantings.
- Work with other garden, grounds, greenhouse, and flower shop professionals.
- Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
- Support other departments with grounds-related tasks.
- Coordinate vehicle and equipment use, maintenance, and repair with the Grounds Foreman and staff.
- Perform weekly utility cart and biweekly vehicle maintenance checks.
- Interact professionally and courteously with staff and guests.
- Contribute positively to staff morale and exhibit a cooperative attitude.
- Operate vehicles safely and comply with traffic rules and regulations.
- Work productively and efficiently with or without supervision on routine tasks.
- Adhere to dress and grooming standards, presenting a neat, clean, and professional image.
- Learn and demonstrate service steps and strategies with guests and staff.
- Learn and retain knowledge of historical facts about the property.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Act calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Analyze problems and develop action plans.
- Ensure the safety of guests, employees, and self on the property.
- Inspect the work of others for conformance to standards.
- Communicate clearly and congenially in English, and hear verbal instructions.
- Perform physical tasks including reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping, twisting, flexing arms, walking stairs/inclines, sitting, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods.
- Lift and carry heavy objects, with specific weight and distance requirements.
- Maneuver carts or dollies with loads safely.
- Utilize vision capabilities including close/distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions and expose self to natural elements.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
- Pay close attention to details.
- Maintain order in job sites and storage areas.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and peak periods.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License.
- At least 21 years of age, or 20 years of age with at least two years of licensed driving experience.
- Previous landscaping experience preferred.
