About the Role
As a veterinary assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting our doctors and veterinary technicians while helping provide excellent patient care. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on veterinary environment and wants to continue building their skills alongside an experienced team.
Responsibilities
- Support the veterinary team throughout appointments, procedures, and hospitalized patient care.
- Safely restrain patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Assist with triage and obtaining patient histories.
- Collect and process laboratory samples and assist with in-house diagnostics.
- Prepare patients for and assist with diagnostic imaging, including digital radiographs.
- Provide nursing care and monitor hospitalized patients with varying levels of medical needs.
- Administer medications as directed by the veterinary team.
- Assist with surgical preparation and procedures.
- Support anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
- Communicate treatment information and instructions to clients in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Keep treatment areas, equipment, and patient spaces clean and organized.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience is required.
- Comfortable safely restraining dogs and cats.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced veterinary environment.
- Self-motivated with a desire to continue developing your veterinary knowledge and skills.
- Compassionate approach to both patients and their families.
- Must be comfortable around animals and potential exposure to unpleasant odors and noises, bites, scratches, animal waste, and contagious diseases.
