About the Role
We are seeking two FinOps Advocates to join our team. One role will focus on AWS, and this position will be the authority on GCP and Azure. You should have deep expertise in at least one of these platforms and meaningful hands-on experience with the other. This is a practitioner role, not sales or marketing, where you will engage with prospects, customers, and our product team, leveraging your experience managing cloud costs at scale.
Responsibilities
- Join evaluations as the technical authority on GCP and Azure costs.
- Guide cloud leaders and CFOs through billing data and identify savings opportunities.
- Run proof-of-concept engagements and provide direct answers.
- Assist new customers in building a FinOps practice around North.
- Identify and address issues in stalled account adoptions.
- Pressure-test releases against real customer environments.
- Account for differences in GCP and Azure billing structures and models.
- Collaborate with the Principal Product Manager and CEO on roadmap decisions.
- Represent North publicly through writing, speaking, and community involvement.
Requirements
- 5+ years running cloud FinOps, either leading a practice or in product management at a vendor.
- Ownership of cloud cost outcomes.
- Deep fluency in GCP, Azure, or both, with hands-on experience interpreting billing data.
- For GCP: experience with Cloud Billing exports, BigQuery billing data, resource hierarchy, labels, Committed Use Discounts, and enterprise pricing agreements.
- For Azure: experience with Azure Cost Management and Billing, management groups, subscriptions, resource groups, tags, Reservations, Savings Plans, and enterprise agreements or cloud commitments.
- Experience designing tagging, labeling, allocation, showback, or chargeback systems.
- Experience managing commitments, forecasting cloud demand, and balancing savings against utilization and lock-in risk.
- Understanding of challenges in normalizing cost and usage data across cloud providers.
- Credibility with both finance and engineering audiences.
- Comfort operating in pre-sales without a quota.
- A track record of turning customer or practitioner patterns into product requirements.
- Willingness to disagree with a product decision and make the case directly to the CEO.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a role that is still being defined.
