About the Role
Perform various clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory Department to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Analyze and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy, and notify appropriate personnel of abnormal findings.
Responsibilities
- Applies a basic level of knowledge of methods and clinical relevance of tests performed.
- Performs all preventive maintenance on schedule.
- Recognizes abnormal instrument or test performance and corrects issues before releasing patient results.
- Performs basic troubleshooting and seeks assistance when necessary.
- Monitors reagent and supply inventory and informs supervisor of needs.
- Works effectively in high-pressure situations and processes a high volume of work without errors.
- Organizes work effectively for collaboration and handover.
- Verifies and processes specimens in an organized and timely manner.
- Performs phlebotomy with expertise when required.
- Follows all procedures accurately.
- Performs all test procedures accurately.
- Performs Quality Control according to Laboratory protocol.
- Documents Quality Control and corrective actions.
- Follows laboratory procedure when Q.C. fails.
- Assures results are accurate by applying knowledge of test interrelationships.
- Communicates clearly and concisely.

- Demonstrates proper telephone techniques and etiquette.
- Effectively utilizes the computer to process specimens, report results, and access information.

- Evaluates Quality Control and calculates patient results using mathematical and statistical calculations.
- Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance.
- Reports to assigned area on time for scheduled shift.
- Adheres to hospital/department dress code.
- Completes all hospital requirements at designated times.
- Conforms to policies regarding confidentiality of information.
- Follows call-in procedure when sick, late, or absent.
Requirements
- BS in Medical Technology which includes a clinical internship or BS in a related discipline with one year supervised clinical laboratory experience.
- NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible.
- Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations.
- Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
- Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing.
- Effectively communicates detailed data and procedures.
- Works effectively in high-pressure situations.
