About the Role
The Residence Hall Director (RHD) is responsible for the daily administration of one of four residence halls at Onondaga Community College. This live-in position is critical in fostering safe, inclusive, and student-centered residential communities that support student wellbeing, engagement, belonging, academic success, and the holistic educational experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain inclusive residence hall communities that promote student engagement, belonging, wellbeing, accountability, and a positive living-learning environment.
- Supervise a staff of four to six Resident Assistants (RAs), including recruitment, selection, training, scheduling, evaluation, and professional development.
- Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of residential education and co-curricular programming to support student success and retention.
- Coordinate and support Living-Learning Communities through collaboration with faculty partners and campus stakeholders.
- Build supportive relationships with students by maintaining a visible and accessible presence, providing guidance, referrals, conflict mediation, and proactive support.
- Serve in an on-call rotation and respond to student crises, emergencies, and critical incidents.
- Communicate, interpret, and uphold College policies, residence hall procedures, and community standards.
- Collaborate with campus partners to enhance the residential student experience and support institutional initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison to facilities, maintenance, custodial, and housekeeping personnel.
- Oversee administrative and operational functions including occupancy management, room condition documentation, key inventories, opening and closing procedures, and recordkeeping.
- Support divisional and campus-wide initiatives through committee participation and program involvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalency.
- Previous higher education administration, student affairs, residence life (campus affiliated housing), or community housing management experience is required.
- Valid driver's license.
- Previous hall director experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.
- Community College experience.
- Experience working within diverse populations.
