About the Role
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a recent law school graduate or early-career attorney to develop a sophisticated practice in corporate, transactional, and real estate law. You will provide pragmatic counsel to a retail business and a real estate business, negotiating contracts, closing deals, and advising on operational matters. The company seeks an energetic team player who will thrive with mentorship and professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal contracts for the retail business, including SaaS, non-disclosure, financing, access, employment, and transportation agreements.
- Support the real estate business in purchasing, selling, leasing, and financing its commercial real estate portfolio, including due diligence, title review, transaction document negotiation, deal management, and closing.
- Assist both retail and real estate businesses with day-to-day property portfolio management, including counseling property managers, handling landlord-tenant disputes, interpreting leases, and advising on compliance.
- Assist with the formation and governance of corporate entities, including drafting operating agreements, corporate resolutions, amendments, and related instruments.
- Integrate artificial intelligence into daily practice, including creating and collaborating with custom 'AI skills.'
- Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulatory developments, and industry practices.
- Direct and oversee outside counsel engagements with an emphasis on cost efficiency and accountability.
- Contribute to the legal department's operations, potentially representing the retail business in employment matters, customer satisfaction, governmental inquiries, and compliance.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school, preferably graduating in the top 25% of class.
- Admission to the New York State bar in good standing, or eligible for registration as in-house counsel in New York.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of relevant legal experience.
- Strong knowledge of, or interest in, corporate, transactional, and/or real estate law.
- Proficient in, or willing to learn and actively implement, artificial intelligence tools on a daily basis.
- Outstanding analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools (e.g., LexisNexis).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Collegial demeanor and proven success in a team-oriented environment.
