About the Role

Under the daily direction and supervision of the Charge/Resource RN, coordinates all patient care activities. Responsible for transcribing physician orders and all activities related to completion of those orders. Communicates all information to various levels.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibits ability to prioritize activities.
  • Assists others in obtaining and sharing pertinent information, notifying appropriate RN or department of stat orders.
  • Coordinates desk communication activities during a code or other emergency situation.
  • Serves as a resource to staff regarding protocol requirements and sequencing for lab tests and X-ray procedures.
  • Accurately transcribes physician's orders into computer, on Kardex or manually on requisition forms.
  • Schedules patients for special tests/procedures with appropriate departments and relays pertinent information.
  • Maintains patient medical records by accurately dating and recording TPR sheets, recording 24 hour intake and output on graphic sheet as requested, stocking and thinning charts, preparing intake and output sheets, and organizing discharge patient records.
  • Coordinates all documentation necessary for interdepartmental transfers and discharges to other facilities.
  • Checks pre-op charts for completion of consent forms, tests, etc., and notifies RN of missing information.
  • Changes charts for pending surgery or diagnostic tests.
  • Orders unit supplies from Central Service, Office Products Supplier or stockroom as needed.
  • Maintains and communicates accurate census count of the unit.
  • Assists in data collection, QA and statistical tracking of unit activities.
  • Maintains appropriate logbooks in designated areas.
  • Enters appropriate patient charges.
  • Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
  • Monitor Watcher (passed Dysrhythmia course and post test).
  • Retrieves report from previous shift regarding existing rhythms on monitors patients and runs baseline rhythm strip at beginning of shift.
  • Identifies significant changes in cardiac pattern and notifies RN.
  • Checks pre-op charts for completion of consent forms, tests, etc., and notifies RN of missing information as able.
  • Records 24 hour intake and output on graphic sheet as able.

Requirements

  • Related Work Experience A Plus.
  • Must have basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and an understanding of medications.
