About the Role
The Structural Steel Inspector will inspect structural steel members and fabricated steel components used in MTA/NYCT construction projects. This role requires experience with structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, non-destructive testing, and applicable steel industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspect structural steel members and welded steel fabrications.
- Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications provided by the Authority.
- Perform or witness inspections using NDT methods such as radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and liquid dye penetrant testing.
- Verify compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Inspect other steel materials as assigned.
- Prepare inspection reports and support acceptance or rejection recommendations.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of experience in structural steel inspections, associated inspections, or metallurgical inspections.
- Current AWS Welding Inspector certification.
- Current ASNT Level II or III certification, or applicable NDT certification, as required.
- Working knowledge of non-destructive testing techniques for steel.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, and construction contract documents.
