About the Role

The Civic Engagement Coordinator supports the organization's community engagement, civic participation, and advocacy efforts. This role serves as a bridge between community experiences, organizational programming, and public systems, ensuring community members have access to information and opportunities to participate in civic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with community members and support their active participation in civic engagement, advocacy, and community decision-making.
  • Gather and elevate community feedback, concerns, and priorities to inform organizational programming, engagement strategies, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, listening sessions, workshops, forums, and public education activities.
  • Develop and implement civic engagement and advocacy initiatives based on identified community needs.
  • Support community members in participating in public hearings and meetings, and coordinate communication with external partners.
  • Monitor and research policy, legislative, regulatory, and budget developments, translating complex information into accessible materials.
  • Collaborate with internal program teams to connect community concerns with civic engagement and advocacy efforts.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Policy, Public Administration, Community Organizing, Political Science, Urban Planning, or a related field, with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Community Development, Urban Studies, Education, Sociology, or a related field, with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in advocacy, community organizing, civic engagement, policy analysis, government relations, or a related area.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting communities.
  • Familiarity with local, city, and state government structures and public decision-making processes.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations, coalitions, public agencies, or other community and civic partners.
  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience organizing community events, trainings, workshops, forums, or public meetings.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear, accessible, and culturally responsive manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community empowerment, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
