About the Role
Dex is seeking a founding data hire to own the data foundation end-to-end, including data models, pipelines, and the data platform. This role is crucial for providing data intelligence across the business, enabling faster and sharper insights for both internal teams and AI agents. You will set the standards for data quality and build out the data function as the company grows.
Responsibilities
- Design and own core data models.
- Ensure data is captured and structured correctly at the source within product and engineering codebases.
- Build and maintain pipelines connecting company systems.
- Develop a self-serve data platform for internal teams.
- Structure data for AI agents as first-class consumers.
- Partner on key business metrics, from acquisition to commercial performance.
- Translate ambiguous business questions into data models, metrics, and clear answers.
- Set standards for data quality, definitions, and instrumentation.
Requirements
- Experience building the data foundation for a consumer product or marketplace at scale.
- Proficiency as both an engineer and an analyst, capable of modeling, piping data, and interpreting business insights.
- Comfortable reading and modifying existing codebases.
- Fluent across a modern analytics stack (cloud warehouse, transformation layer, orchestration, BI) with opinions on tool selection.
- Commercially and product-minded, focusing on metrics and driven decisions.
- Platform-oriented thinking, building reusable solutions.
- Intelligent, ambitious, with strong judgment.
- A good person who is fun to work with and proactive.
