About the Role
Egis is seeking a Tax Accountant to manage the connection between statutory and management reporting, and to oversee direct and indirect tax compliance. This role requires attention to detail, reconciliation skills, and the ability to explain financial differences to various stakeholders across multiple legal entities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit periodic VAT returns across various jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy and timely filing.
- Manage supporting indirect tax filings, including EC Sales Lists and Intrastat.
- Apply correct VAT treatment to cross-border transactions, including reverse charge, place-of-supply, and partial exemption calculations.
- Maintain and reconcile VAT control accounts, ensuring timely clearance of balances.
- Ensure ongoing Making Tax Digital compliance and maintain the digital links audit trail.
- Monitor changes in VAT legislation and assess their impact on the business.
- Prepare corporation tax computations and supporting workings.
- Calculate current and deferred tax balances for statutory and group reporting, including quarterly tax provisioning.
- Maintain the UK cash tax monitoring (actual and forecast).
- Manage correspondence with tax authorities, including responses to queries, enquiries, and audits.
- Support transfer pricing documentation and intercompany recharge calculations.
- Track filing and payment deadlines across all entities and maintain a compliance calendar.
- Identify opportunities to automate and standardize recurring reconciliation and filing work.
- Improve documentation of tax and reporting processes for repeatability and auditability.
- Partner with FP&A, Group Reporting, and the wider business on the tax implications of new transactions, entities, or markets.
Requirements
- Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or qualified by experience.
- 5+ years in a tax, financial reporting, or statutory accounting role, ideally within a multi-entity group.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience preparing and filing VAT returns.
- Solid understanding of the differences between statutory reporting frameworks and internal management reporting, and comfort explaining those differences.
- Strong reconciliation skills and genuine attention to detail.
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, large data sets).
- Clear written and verbal communication, including with non-finance colleagues.
- CTA qualification, or working towards (desirable).
- Experience with multi-jurisdictional VAT and cross-border transactions (desirable).
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, or Dynamics and tax filing software (desirable).
- Exposure to transfer pricing, deferred tax, or group consolidation (desirable).
- Experience improving or automating a compliance process (desirable).
