About the Role

FM Affiliated is seeking a Production Underwriter to join the New York City Office. This role is responsible for new business production and renewal retention while maintaining underwriting profit and protecting company assets. The Production Underwriter will market FM Affiliated products and services to a network of producers, fostering long-term relationships.

Responsibilities

Responsible for profitable risk selection, negotiation of pricing, terms and conditions.
Utilize creative underwriting strategies to optimize net retentions, balancing customer and company needs.
Coordinate account team resources to provide excellent and responsive services.
Work closely with Account Engineers to review renewal and new business opportunities.
Ensure proper risk identification, selection, and assessment for portfolio growth.
Manage relationships with brokers and reinsurers for insurance-related issues.
Meet specific profit, retention, and production goals.
Establish business relationships and a network of contacts.
Execute an effective program of calls, averaging 10 external calls per month.
Pre-qualify new risks based on acceptability and future potential.
Conduct thorough analysis of broker submissions, desired pricing, terms and conditions, financial condition, adequacy of reported values, and loss experience.
Protect company assets by adhering to underwriting standards and procedures.
Determine amount subject, net capacity commitment, and check cross liability.
Manage catastrophe aggregate retentions.
Negotiate and purchase reinsurance.
Establish commissions in a manner most advantageous to the company.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2-5 years FM or Property Insurance experience.
Sound working knowledge of the business, including risk identification and assessment, property insurance coverage, forms, financial statements, and business computer applications.
Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, time management, analysis, decision-making, problem-solving, sales/negotiation/presentation, and leadership.
Ability to establish a network of property producers and industry contacts.
