Responsibilities

Provide expert patient care following policies and procedures.
Perform ongoing comprehensive assessments, including physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental components.
Document assessments, care provision, medication administration, patient/family education, patient/family responses, and care planning according to unit and service standards.
Identify complex patient problems and collaborate on care plans based on evidence and patient goals.
Implement age-specific, culturally, and spiritually competent nursing interventions.
Recognize and respond effectively to subtle changes in patient/family response to care.
Differentiate and address unique age-specific patient/family learning needs and barriers.
Implement educational plans considering cultural and spiritual factors.
Monitor staff compliance with unit and service documentation standards.
Resolve conflicts positively and in a timely manner, addressing issues directly with co-workers.
Use conflict management strategies to improve staff relationships and unit operations.
Treat patients, family, and staff with kindness, courtesy, respect, and trust.
Demonstrate respect for all viewpoints and cultures.
Communicate effectively in written, verbal, and non-verbal interactions with healthcare members, patients, and families.
Listen attentively to customers, paying attention to both verbal and non-verbal messages.
Communicate with customers clearly, courteously, caringly, and appropriately.
Demonstrate responsibility for continuous learning to improve self and performance.
Function effectively as an expert charge nurse and preceptor for staff and students.
Provide learning opportunities and contribute to the orientation of team members and students.
Demonstrate good communication, fairness, and support for staff while modeling an approachable, calm, helpful, and efficient demeanor.
Accept and act on constructive feedback from leadership, peers, and colleagues positively.
Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and assignments to meet patient and unit goals.

Assist with data collection for unit performance improvement activities.
Assist leadership in implementing changes identified through performance improvement needs.
