About the Role
The Business Travel Sales Manager drives business transient revenue by acquiring, developing, and retaining corporate, negotiated, consortia, government, and travel agency accounts. This role develops strategic sales initiatives to increase room night production, revenue, account penetration, and market share while building strong relationships within the local business and travel community.
Responsibilities
- Research, identify, solicit, and secure new corporate, negotiated, consortia, government, and travel agency accounts.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with corporate clients, travel managers, travel agencies, consortia partners, and key local organizations.
- Manage and grow an assigned portfolio of accounts through proactive account management, regular client contact, and targeted action plans.
- Meet or exceed monthly revenue, room night, and sales activity goals through prospecting, outside sales calls, appointments, presentations, networking, and client entertainment.
- Conduct regular account reviews to evaluate production, identify opportunities, and increase share of wallet.
- Lead and support annual corporate RFPs, negotiated rate agreements, contract renewals, and account negotiations.
- Partner with Revenue Management to align account strategies and negotiated rates with hotel demand, pricing strategy, and overall revenue objectives.
- Monitor account production, sales pace, market trends, competitor activity, and demand patterns to identify opportunities and risks.
- Prepare weekly sales activity reports and monthly demand, pace, and market analysis.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, account profiles, sales activities, opportunities, and pipeline information.
- Conduct client site inspections, hotel tours, corporate events, networking functions, and familiarization opportunities.
- Collaborate with Group Sales and Catering to identify opportunities for cross-selling meetings, events, and group business.
- Maintain strong relationships with Sonesta GSO partners and leverage those relationships to generate new business.
- Represent the hotel and Sonesta brand at industry events, trade shows, networking organizations, and within the local business community.
- Partner closely with Revenue Management, Reservations, Marketing, Operations, Group Sales, Catering, and hotel leadership to maximize business opportunities and deliver exceptional client experiences.
- Promote teamwork, collaboration, and a positive, results-driven sales culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- 3+ years of progressive hotel sales, business development, business transient, or related hospitality experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a full-service hotel environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of business transient sales, corporate travel, negotiated accounts, consortia, government, and travel agency markets.
- Strong understanding of the local Toronto business and travel market preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with account management, prospecting, RFPs, contract negotiations, and revenue generation.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret account production, market trends, demand, and competitive information.
- Excellent communication, presentation, networking, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and results-oriented with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with CRM and hotel sales systems such as Salesforce, Delphi, Opera, Amadeus, Demand360, and STR preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple hotel departments and build strong internal and external relationships.
- Ability to travel locally for client meetings, sales calls, networking events, and industry functions.
- Flexible availability, including occasional evenings and weekends for client entertainment and industry events.
