About the Role

We are looking for an ambitious Associate with at least 3.5+ years PQE to join our top-ranked Employment Department, focusing predominantly on senior executive clients with some work for employers.
Responsibilities
- Advising on sensitive exits, negotiated settlements, remuneration issues, non-compete provisions, governance queries, regulatory concerns, and related investigations and disciplinary processes.
- Handling grievances, drafting and reviewing employment contracts and remuneration packages, disputes, and tribunal and high court litigation.
- Advising senior individuals across a range of sectors and legal disciplines, particularly in Financial Services and Professional Services sectors, as well as plc and listed companies.
- Advising Founders and Founder/Owners.
- Working closely with lawyers in other teams internally, gaining exposure to partnership, regulatory, tax and incentives, disputes, corporate, and data protection law.
- Advising some employers, while maintaining a primary focus on the Senior Executive practice.
- Enjoying a close working relationship with senior partners, with a focus on nurturing learning and development.
- Building one's own practice and profile with full support.
- Being introduced to a range of clients and joining a team that values technical and skills-based development.
- Engaging in business development and marketing as part of a team working to a business plan.
- Participating in the firm’s cross-department sector groups (financial services, professional services, and tech/fintech).
Requirements
- At least 3.5+ years PQE.
- Strong knowledge and skills in employment law.
- Experience acting for, or having meaningful exposure to matters involving, senior executives, partners, founders, C-suite individuals, or other key stakeholders.
- Experience advising on senior-level appointment and exit issues, including service agreements, settlement agreements, restrictive covenants, confidentiality, bonus/commission, equity or incentive arrangements, and reputational considerations.
- Experience supporting senior executives through investigations (disciplinary, whistleblowing, grievance, or regulatory) and subsequent processes.
- Experience handling negotiations with employers and their advisers.
- Experience working collaboratively with specialists in tax, incentives, corporate, disputes, regulatory, or partnership.
- Experience advising on mixed employment and regulatory issues, especially relating to the SMCR and NFM.
- Experience working as part of a team on complex, high-value tribunal and High Court litigation.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, discretion, and confidence when dealing with sensitive, time-critical, or high-profile employment matters.
- Experience in business development initiatives, ideally with a focus on the Senior Executive market.
- Ability to balance senior executive work with advising some employers.
- Candidates will be considered if they have strong employment law skills gained from working mainly for employers and wish to transition to advising senior executives.
