About the Role
Anthropic is seeking a Policy Generalist to join the Strategic Advisory team within the Public Policy department. This role will focus on developing and maintaining the policy research strategy, leading research initiatives to strengthen Anthropic's policy influence globally, and translating complex research into actionable analysis for policy teams.
Responsibilities
- Run policy development processes from open question to agreed position, including framing questions, engaging experts, resolving disagreements, and reaching decisions.
- Develop research plans for priority issue areas, identifying necessary evidence, leveraging Anthropic's data, and determining the need for external partners.
- Collaborate with research teams (economics, Societal Impacts, Frontier Red Team) to translate findings into materials for policymakers.
- Manage commissioned research projects from scoping to publication and foster partnerships with external academics, think tanks, economists, and consultancies.
- Oversee economic impact reports and associated narratives for global markets.
- Proactively identify emerging policy issues and develop Anthropic's perspective and supporting materials with internal experts.
- Scale the team's support for international markets by adapting strategy and materials for different governments and creating scalable processes.
- Draft briefings, talking points, and other materials under tight deadlines, ensuring message consistency with policy communications.
Requirements
- Proven ability to drive cross-functional projects to completion, including facilitating agreement among stakeholders with competing interests.
- Experience as a policy generalist across multiple issue areas, including designing and executing policy research and developing policy proposals or positions.
- Skill in scoping research questions, collaborating with experts (economists, academics), and evaluating the quality of evidence and methods.
- Excellent writing skills, capable of transforming complex technical or economic information into clear, concise documents for various audiences.
- Understanding of the interplay between a company's commercial interests and its policy positions.
- Strong organization and project management capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple projects and external partners concurrently.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of problems, and drive deliverables proactively.
- Collaborative and low-ego approach, willing to contribute wherever needed and share credit.
- Interest in AI policy and alignment with Anthropic's mission of developing safe and beneficial AI.

- Background in AI or technology policy (preferred)
- Experience with international policy or supporting teams in multiple countries (preferred)
- Training in economics or quantitative methods (preferred)

- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
- Relevant field of study demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience
