About the Role

The Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for cleaning, decontamination, preparation, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. This role requires knowledge of surgical instrumentation and the ability to assemble surgical trays.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of decontamination, disinfection, and cleaning methods for instruments and equipment.
• Disassembles instruments and equipment for cleaning, ensuring removal of all bio-burden material.
• Inspects instruments and equipment for proper function and damage.
• Operates and troubleshoots cleaning equipment.
• Maintains OSHA safety standards.
• Demonstrates knowledge of preparation, assembly, inspection, and packaging of general and specialty instrument sets.
• Selects, inspects, and arranges instruments for sterilization according to set requirements.
• Adds sterilization integrators, assembly lists, and labels each set appropriately.
• Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization processes, documentation, storage, and delivery of sterile packages.
• Explains the function and operation of all sterilization processes and understands sterilizer indicators.
• Enters, modifies, and searches information in the instrument tracking system.
• Scans all tasks, transactions, and processed sets into the daily record.
• Incorporates infection control guidelines during the transferring, storing, and transporting of sterile packages.
• Demonstrates knowledge in preparation and dispatch of surgical cases.
• Uses the Horizon Surgical Manager program to upload and download operating room schedules.
• Identifies medical/surgical supplies and picks the correct quantity according to preference cards.
• Labels case carts accurately and delivers cases to the operating room.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Requires knowledge of reading, writing, and math normally acquired through high school education.
• Current certification (CRCST) required.
• 1-2 years sterile processing experience, with achievement of specific competencies.
• Demonstrates ability to work well with others as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and do basic mathematical calculations.
• Position requires flexible work schedule, weekends and holidays.
• Requires basic computer skills.
