About the Role

The Medical Assistant II provides clinical office support to physicians and surgeons, performing patient care and administrative duties to ensure quality patient care. This role also involves mentoring and assisting less experienced staff members.

Responsibilities

Fulfill patient care responsibilities including venipuncture, EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with mobility and dressing, collecting and processing specimens, point-of-care testing, and preparing patients for exams.
Assist physicians with procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls providing pertinent information.
Fulfill clerical responsibilities including managing patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports and referral information, completing forms, and managing charts using EMR or manually.
Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician approval.
Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies.
Prepare examination rooms and instruments using proper sterilization techniques.
Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point-of-care testing, sterilization, and crash carts.
Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and dispose of them appropriately.
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by adhering to standards, procedures, and legal regulations.
Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against hazardous substances.
Assist in maintaining medical charts, including filing reports and test results.
Schedule surgeries/procedures, verify times with patients, and prepare necessary documentation.
Perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
Perform appointment scheduling and registration, and update patient demographic and insurance information.
Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
Check and verify insurance information using internal or web sources.
Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures.
Provide training and mentoring to Level I MA staff.
Direct and assign MA schedules and workflow to meet practice needs and patient volumes.
Oversee the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet physician needs.
Perform other duties and tasks as required.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED with completion of a Medical Assistant certificate course from an approved program.
2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
For in-house candidates, promotion to Level II is contingent upon consistent E or S annual performance appraisals.
Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
BCLS certification required, issued by AHA.
