About the Role
The Program Supervisor determines the vision, goals, and objectives of the school-age program, including administrative operations and curriculum. This role researches and implements developmentally appropriate practices for an elementary afterschool program aligned with NYC Department of Education Common Core Standards, supporting children's social/emotional, physical, and cognitive development. The position identifies and develops partnerships to enhance programming and opportunities for youth participants and develops and implements a continuous improvement plan to assess program efficiencies and impact. The Program Supervisor collaborates with the Early Childhood Center (ECC) to ensure holistic care for children and families, supports high-quality instruction, coaches staff, ensures regulatory compliance, and guides program enhancements tied to new initiatives/grants and facility/space planning.
Responsibilities
- Review attendance and school report cards and follow up accordingly.
- Coordinate staff development (on and off site) and ensure new staff receive orientation, incorporating coaching/modeling and a "train the trainer" approach.
- Ensure children with IEPs receive services supporting their individual needs.
- Ensure attendance and program reports are entered into DYCD Connect and OST online in a timely manner.
- Coordinate and complete paperwork for the SYEP program.
- Supervise SYEP youth and coordinate trainings and meetings for them.
- Order supplies.
- Recruit, hire, and observe staff to evaluate service delivery quality and identify staff development needs.
- Meet regularly with school-age staff to plan, coordinate, conduct, assess, and build upon educational curricula.
- Collaborate with the data team and regulatory agencies to develop and implement a continuous improvement process ensuring program efficiencies and impact on student outcomes.
- Act as a liaison between the Center and participants' primary caregivers, and the community, establishing communication systems to promote the Center's mission, goals, and activities, informing caregivers of their role in their child's education, and enlisting support from caregivers, community residents, and leaders.
- Recruit new participants for school year and summer sessions.
- Collaborate with the family support team to assist staff in addressing participants' educational, health, social, and special needs.
- Identify and cultivate partnerships with other community and cultural organizations to enhance programming opportunities.
- Ensure the program meets all regulatory and licensing requirements as per the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the NYS Department of Health, and the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development.
- Serve as a group leader during the academic year.
- Work alongside the Director of Warren Street Center for Children and Families to ensure the overall operation of the center, highest quality of services, and continuity of care for all children and families.
- Lead the management and implementation of new grants and funded initiatives for the school-age program, including overseeing compliance, meeting program benchmarks, coordinating required reporting, and supporting ongoing funding opportunities.
- Serve as Facilities and Maintenance Building Coordinator, ensuring program spaces are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Coach staff members on effective classroom management and behavior-support strategies to promote a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with the Early Childhood Center (ECC) to ensure a holistic, aligned, and seamless continuity of care for children and families across programs.
- Serve as an Educational/Curriculum Specialist or Instructional Coordinator to support curriculum planning, instructional quality, and staff development.
- Act as an Educational/Facility Space Planner to ensure program environments are developmentally appropriate, functional, and aligned to instructional needs.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Education or a related field.
- Actively working toward a Masters Degree in Education, Child Development, School-Age Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- Experience working with school-age children in an after-school, youth development, or educational setting.
- Strong communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
- Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Experience Level
