About the Role
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adult oncology patients within the Wilmot Cancer Institute Psycho-Oncology Program and the Pluta Cancer Center. The NP functions as an embedded behavioral health provider within a multidisciplinary oncology team and collaborates closely with medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, psychology, social work, nursing, palliative care, and psychiatry to improve access to evidence-based mental health care for patients with cancer. The position combines direct psychiatric care with program development, interdisciplinary consultation, education, and support of integrated behavioral health initiatives, including the Collaborative Care Model. The NP will also participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing, and skill training.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adult oncology patients.
- Function as an embedded behavioral health provider within a multidisciplinary oncology team.
- Collaborate with medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, psychology, social work, nursing, palliative care, and psychiatry.
- Improve access to evidence-based mental health care for patients with cancer.
- Combine direct psychiatric care with program development, interdisciplinary consultation, education, and support of integrated behavioral health initiatives.
- Participate in the education of learners (students and new employees) through clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing, and skill training.
Requirements
- Must be a licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in NYS.
- Require a Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Must have an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
- Must have an active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing.
- Must have current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.
- Demonstrate clinical competence.
- Demonstrate superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills.
- Demonstrate computer competence.
- Must have an active desire to learn.
