About the Role
The Office of Internal Affairs & Discipline (IAD) manages non-criminal allegations of employee misconduct, investigates and disciplines employees, conducts background investigations, provides integrity training, and performs quality assurance checks. The Deputy Director supervises legal staff, oversees investigations and disciplinary actions, and ensures compliance with various codes and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise legal staff and help manage unit operations.
- Review and assign cases, conduct case reviews, and manage employee disciplinary and other investigations.
- Ensure cases are completed in a timely and effective manner and all mandated investigative steps are followed.
- Coordinate and make appearances in disciplinary hearings at OATH Trials Division and other venues.
- Provide guidance and leadership in the planning and execution of investigations.
- Ensure employee background and other investigations are thorough and complete.
- Compile and analyze periodic reports of actions, investigations, compliance inspections, and case dispositions.
- Analyze case findings and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure mandatory integrity trainings are conducted prior to employment and periodically.
- Provide support for other units within Investigations and Compliance, Policy and Legal Affairs, and Enforcement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or senior management.
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar.
- Eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
- Must remain a Member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of employment.
