About the Role

The Backstage Duty Manager will manage Backstage Operations, including staff, for designated services and events, ensuring audience comfort and safety. This role is crucial for the smooth running of Backstage's F&B operations and event support.

Responsibilities

Operate and troubleshoot EPOS/till systems, processing transactions accurately.
Perform opening and closing duties as per the rota.
Assist with stock rotation, counts, and stocktakes.
Report maintenance, health & safety, or customer service issues.
Support events, private hires, and theatre hospitality functions.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, menus, wines, beers, and specials.
Support staff training and product knowledge development.
Secure the Backstage building and set the alarm system upon closing.
Act as the primary point of contact for staff and guests.
Represent The Old Vic values and mission.
Lead fire evacuations to ensure guest and staff safety.
Liaise with staff and management during emergencies and evacuations.
Manage the daily Headline Security Team to ensure building and patron safety.
Ensure adherence to Health & Safety standards for staff and audience.
Create daily briefing sheets for the Backstage team.
Ensure table bookings are set for service.
Liaise with Chefs regarding out-of-stock food items.
Coordinate with the Security Team and staff for service and space requirements.
Serve as the point of contact for staff, company, and guests during service.
Act as the responder for first aid and evacuation incidents.
Write daily End of Night Reports.
Promote and comply with legislation and The Old Vic policies on Diversity, Sustainability, and Health & Safety.
Undertake other reasonable duties to ensure the smooth running of Backstage.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Duty Manager or Supervisor in a comparable space or venue.
Proven experience leading a team in an on-the-ground capacity.
Proven ability to provide high-level customer service in a pressurized environment.
Highly motivated with a positive and flexible approach to work.
Ability to adapt quickly to new information and procedures.
IT literacy, with good experience of Microsoft Office suite and Excel.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent literacy and numeracy.
Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Good timekeeping.
Must be able to provide satisfactory references.
Must provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
