About the Role
As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you will lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You will plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle, including managing project schedules, identifying risks, and communicating them to stakeholders. You will also explain analyses and recommendations to executives and discuss technical trade-offs with engineers. This role involves managing various Engineering-specific programs and teams, with approximately 25% travel to Google's data centers globally.
Responsibilities
- Orchestrate program strategy across EMEA and APAC to drive consistency and economies of scale.
- Strengthen alignment between technical requirements and business objectives by providing advanced insights facilitating executive decision-making.
- Define requirements for the Google Global Network, designing data center infrastructure (space, power, cooling) and define new product deployment globally.
- Manage complex relationships globally, influencing and collaborating with design engineering firms, carriers, internal engineering teams, and executives to solve large-scale network growth challenges.
- Establish systems to identify and implement innovative solutions that optimize project delivery.
- Manage risks and drive improvements in lead-time, predictability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead a global team of technical program managers, fostering a growth mindset and culture of learning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in technical program management, with a focus on infrastructure projects.
- 5 years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.
- Experience with fiber optic network design/deployment (OSP) and data center infrastructure (ISP).
- 10 years of multi-disciplinary experience in network, fiber, electrical, and mechanical (cooling) systems.
- Experience working with global carriers and stakeholders in the EMEA and APAC telecommunications and data center markets.
- Proven track record in New Product Initiatives (NPI), specifically in defining standards for deployable infrastructure solutions.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to navigate through ambiguity and build consensus among high-level executive stakeholders.
