About the Role
As an Expert Onboard Technology at FlixTrain, you will be responsible for the technology that determines how our passengers are connected, navigate, and experience every journey onboard. You will shape how FlixTrain stays ahead and continues to offer high-quality, memorable travel experiences in a rapidly evolving railway connectivity landscape. You will ensure onboard hardware enables an outstanding passenger experience, smooth operations, and a good working environment for train staff, directly influencing FlixTrain's competitive edge in onboard connectivity.
Responsibilities
- You are responsible for the entire FlixTrain onboard technology ecosystem - Wi-Fi, networks, onboard units, and mobile devices - and never settle for the status quo.
- As the central technical point of contact for all onboard systems, you will evaluate specifications, weigh trade-offs, and make informed, well-reasoned decisions.
- Continuously monitor the performance of our onboard technology, identify problems early, and drive improvements that make every journey smoother.
- Lead cross-functional projects related to connectivity, network performance, and the integration of mobile devices into the vehicle fleet independently and with a clear focus on impact.
- Define technical specifications and network architectures that are ambitious yet achievable, ensuring seamless interfaces with our vehicle fleet.
- Develop test scenarios and functional validations, especially at the critical interface with customers and certification bodies, ensuring our solutions function in real-world operation.
- Keep an eye on new technologies such as 5G, IoT, and Starlink, and translate your findings into concrete recommendations for FlixTrain's technology roadmap.
Requirements
- You have completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- You impress with more than two years of practical experience in network architecture, Wi-Fi systems, or mobile device management, ideally in the context of rail vehicles or a comparably complex technical environment.
- You possess strong problem-solving skills and demonstrable experience in troubleshooting complex network systems under time pressure.
- You gladly take responsibility: You independently bring topics to a conclusion and confidently lead cross-functional initiatives with people from different teams and disciplines.
- You communicate clearly and convincingly with both technical experts and non-technical stakeholders without losing precision.
- You have proficient German and English language skills, as you work in an international team and collaborate with German-speaking suppliers and authorities.
- Experience with rail vehicle system suppliers and familiarity with the contractual, technical, and regulatory environment of the railway industry is advantageous.
