About the Role
Barnet Youth Justice Service (YJS) seeks two passionate and innovative Project Engage Youth Workers to support young people arrested and detained in police stations, offering them a chance to reflect and plan life changes. This role is part of a tri-borough initiative funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) via the Violence Reduction Unit, aiming to reduce serious youth violence and divert young people from offending or exploitation.
Responsibilities
- See young people at custody and in the community.
- Complete and share detailed logs to appropriate professionals in a timely manner.
- Ensure referrals and plans are completed, maintaining a high level of recording on internal systems.
- Attend and present at Engage Panels to support case management and direction.
- Support the Engage team in networking and sourcing community organizations for young people and the YJS.
Requirements
- Good personal time management and self-motivation.
- Strong ability to conduct and record administrative tasks.
- Ability to build professional relationships with young people.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with other professionals across Barnet, Brent, Harrow, the MET staff, and the wider community.
- Good knowledge of at least one of the tri-borough areas.
- Evidence sound risk assessment skills and safeguarding knowledge.
- Ability to work effectively in partnership with other agencies.
- Experience working within the context of the Youth Justice Board’s National Standards and good practice models.
- Understanding of research-based theories related to children, young people, and family intervention is beneficial.
