About the Role
IMPACCT Brooklyn is hiring an Assistant Cook to support meal preparation, service, and kitchen cleanliness. This role involves prepping ingredients, assisting with service, maintaining inventory, and ensuring sanitary conditions. The ideal candidate is a proactive team player who prioritizes food safety and treats others with warmth and respect.
Responsibilities
- Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas.
- Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
- Deep cleaning water dispensers, oven, stove top, and range hood.
- Assisting the Cook with the preparation of meal ingredients.
- Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls and countertops.
- Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
- Organizing, cleaning and correctly storing food supplies.
- Promptly transferring meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen as per the Cook's instructions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proven experience assisting in a kitchen, preferably in an institutional, cafeteria, congregate, or food service setting.
- Must hold a NYC Department of Health Food Protection Certificate or demonstrated ability to obtain one within 2–4 months of hire.
- Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations, including safe food handling, storage, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a kitchen environment.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and adjust to changing priorities during meal service.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
