About the Role
The General Technician ensures the proper operation and performance of customers’ heating/air conditioning systems in a residential environment. This role involves identifying and repairing/replacing necessary components, providing information on equipment usage, and ensuring adequate materials are available for service.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Dispatch and management to ensure timely and accurate handling of work orders.
- Diagnose malfunctions in heating/air conditioning systems and components to identify repair/replacement needs.
- Repair heating/air conditioning systems and related equipment, including unit heaters, pumps, and safety controls.
- Manage repair costs while minimizing inefficiencies.
- Achieve first-time fix, productivity, and customer service goals.
- Maintain tools, supplies, and equipment in safe operating condition.
- Manage and maintain appropriate inventory of parts and equipment.
- Perform repairs for renovation and preventive maintenance of heating/air conditioning systems.
- Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
- Transport tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites.
- Work independently and possess good customer communication skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- Strong HVAC experience in residential areas preferred.
- Universal EPA Certification with 1-3 years’ experience preferred.
- Ability to speak, write, and read English.
- Ability to work independently.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Strong HVAC and plumbing experience in residential and light commercial areas including steam, hot water, warm air, high efficiency, hot water storage, radiant systems, tank-less systems, ductless a/c, and package units.
- Familiarity with and ability to utilize electronic equipment, including computers, for queries and data entry.
