About the Role

OneView is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to design and automate testing for platform features. Reporting to the Head of Quality Engineering, you will be part of a delivery team, influencing quality from refinement through production. You will adhere to an established test strategy and own the design and code within it. You will write tests using a framework owned by the Senior Test Automation Engineer, determining what to test and when coverage is sufficient. Automation is the standard practice, involving building and maintaining automated coverage at API and interface levels within existing frameworks, resorting to manual testing only when genuinely necessary. You will be responsible for diagnosing test failures, identifying the root cause (product defect, test error, or environment issue), and reporting findings clearly for engineers.

Responsibilities

Design test cases, scenarios, and scripts for your feature area, adhering to the criteria and standards set by the quality engineering team.
Build and maintain automated tests at API and interface level within existing frameworks, extending coverage as the product evolves.
Keep regression coverage for your area current as the product changes, working within the suite owned by the Senior Test Automation Engineer.
Participate in refinement, design, and specification reviews, challenging acceptance criteria that cannot be tested and ensuring corrections before development begins.
Run tests in the pipeline and analyze results, including reports, traces, and logs.
Diagnose failures to their root cause, determining if the issue lies with the product, test, or environment before reporting.
Raise defects that engineers can act on immediately, managing them through triage, fix, and re-test.
Manage test data and environment conditions essential for test execution to ensure consistent results.
Conduct exploratory testing around your area to identify gaps in scripted coverage and document findings.
Contribute to non-functional testing in your area, including performance, accessibility, security, and resilience.
Report clearly on test coverage, defect trends, and remaining risks to support release decisions.
Support less experienced QA engineers through example, review, and by assisting them in problem-solving.

Requirements

4+ years in software QA, with at least two years focused on writing and maintaining automated tests.
Proficiency in formal test design techniques (e.g., equivalence partitioning, boundary analysis, state transition, decision tables) and knowing when to apply them.
Understanding of the test pyramid levels and the drawbacks of relying heavily on end-to-end tests.
Experience building and maintaining automated tests in frameworks like Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium, ensuring reliability as the product evolves.
Experience working in a shared repository with branched, reviewed, and merged test code.
Proven ability to identify and fix flaky tests, with the capacity to describe a specific instance, its cause, and the resolution.
Experience with API and service-level testing using tools such as Postman or REST Assured, including deriving test cases from interface specifications and mocking dependencies.
Ability to read application code to understand test coverage and identify potential bug locations.
Comfort diagnosing CI/CD failures using logs, traces, and dashboards in tools like Datadog, Splunk, or Grafana, and creating specific, reproducible, and actionable defect reports.
Experience owning test data and environment setup for test suites, ensuring repeatable test runs.
Experience with performance, accessibility, and security testing, with the ability to interpret results.
Experience pushing back on untestable acceptance criteria and getting them revised before development.
Experience testing for data and transaction integrity, including arithmetic, rounding, idempotency, duplicate submission, partial failure, and handling of mixed success/failure scenarios.
Experience testing enterprise software deployed to major public clouds within an agile, Scrum-based SDLC and STLC.
Must have current, ongoing right to work in the UK. OVC is not a licensed visa sponsor.
