About the Role
We are hiring founding Program Officers for AI Resources to support the AI Resilience team. This role involves rethinking AI resilience by exploring how AI can address challenges in biosecurity, model safety, cybersecurity, and more. You will help develop a new program focused on securing, allocating, and deploying AI resources to advance the Foundation's mission and ensure AGI benefits humanity.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on the AI resources portfolio and shape team strategy, considering potential compute crunches, counterparty risks, and market scenarios.
- Develop strategies for scaling AI resources to grantees and within the Foundation, and understand the implications for the future of philanthropy.
- Perform research to inform program strategy, identifying areas of highest return for AI resources and assessing grantee needs.
- Support end-to-end grantmaking processes, including sourcing, diligence, and resource allocation to grantees.
- Identify and support the development of key projects and organizations within the AI resilience space.
- Collaborate with the AI Resilience team on broader issues such as biosecurity, cybersecurity, and model safety.
- Explore and execute compute acquisitions, deals, and rentals, managing trade-offs across cost, security, and risk.
- Design and execute financing structures for AI resource arrangements with Foundation finance, legal, and tax teams.
- Build and manage the partnership with OpenAI PBC, including model access, tokens, and compute arrangements.
- Engage with market counterparties, representing the Foundation to executives at providers, AI companies, and financial institutions.
Requirements
- High execution capability with comfort in ambiguity and context-switching.
- Ability to move between operations, grantmaking, research, and strategy seamlessly.
- Close monitoring of frontier AI capabilities and risks with independent judgment.
- Understanding of AGI trajectory, including timelines and potential for recursive self-improvement.
- Independent takes on AI capability development and the role of AI systems in future worlds.
- Grasp of how compute powers AI systems and the team's hypothesis on directing AI at its own challenges.
- Fluency in technical layers including data centers, compute, AI models, and general infrastructure.
- Sufficient compute literacy to sanity-check technical requests.
- Deep familiarity with the AI resilience, safety, and security ecosystem.
- AI-native approach, utilizing AI tools by default and seeking automation opportunities.
- Strong mission alignment and excitement for ensuring AGI benefits all of humanity.
