About the Role

We are seeking a founding Head of Talent to build and lead the hiring function for the Foundation from the ground up. This player-coach role involves owning full-cycle recruiting, partnering with senior leaders, and building recruiting infrastructure to support rapid growth without compromising quality. You will personally manage key searches and lay the groundwork for a growing team, reporting to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Own full-cycle recruiting across the Foundation, from role scoping and intake through sourcing, candidate experience, offer design, and close.
  • Partner with founding leaders across all four programs to define roles, set hiring bars, and structure interview processes.
  • Build top-of-funnel sourcing strategies, talent maps, and pipelines for diverse talent.
  • Design and execute interview processes, including scorecards, debriefs, and calibration, to ensure high quality.
  • Close exceptional, mission-aligned candidates by demonstrating fluency in the work and honesty about trade-offs.
  • Establish essential recruiting infrastructure, including ATS, tooling, pipeline reporting, employer brand, and a candidate experience that reflects the mission's importance.
  • Hire and lead recruiters as the Foundation scales, and manage people foundations like leveling, offer frameworks, and a consistent hiring bar.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on organizational design, leveling, and compensation strategy.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in talent acquisition, including leadership roles (Head of Recruiting, Director, Founding Recruiter) at a frontier AI lab, research organization, or a similarly high-bar environment.
  • Proven experience scaling an organization rapidly by building recruiting functions and processes from scratch.
  • Demonstrated success in personally hiring senior researchers, engineers, and operators, closing them against top company offers.
  • Ability to engage in substantive conversations about AI and the mission to gain the trust of researchers, engineers, and senior operators.
  • Persuasive closer who builds rapport and wins on substance, not pressure.
  • Operates with discipline and care, even without extensive team support.
  • Deeply mission-aligned and enthusiastic about ensuring AGI benefits all of humanity.
