About the Role

The National Parks and Wildlife Advisory Council (Council) provides independent, informed technical expert advice to the NSW Minister for the Environment and the Secretary of the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water on a wide range of strategic matters impacting the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974. Applications are invited to fill nine positions on the Council, commencing 1 December 2026 for up to four years.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent, informed technical expert advice on strategic matters including proposed legislation changes, draft plans of management, long-term leases and licenses, and high-impact issues.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the Council by listening attentively, analyzing information, and making constructive contributions to discussions.
  • Uphold the NSW Government’s Board and Committee Code of Conduct.
  • Act in the public interest.
  • Prepare for meetings and provide informed contributions.
  • Assist the Council in its functions as set out in Section 23 of the NPW Act.

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid Australian Working Visa for the duration of the appointment.
  • Ability to contribute to the effectiveness of the Council.
  • Ability to listen attentively to others’ opinions.
  • Ability to analyze information.
  • Ability to make a constructive contribution to discussion.
  • Ability to uphold the NSW Government’s Board and Committee Code of Conduct.
  • Obligation to act in the public interest.
  • Ability to take time to prepare for meetings and provide informed contributions.
  • Ability to demonstrate capabilities to assist the Council in its functions.
  • Willingness to complete a Pecuniary Interests Declaration upon successful appointment.

Salary/Compensations

  • $220 per full day
  • $110 per half day
