About the Role
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer in our Building Services team, you will play a key leadership role in the delivery of complex major Defence, Buildings and Infrastructure projects nationally. You will lead the mechanical engineering discipline across a diverse portfolio of projects, providing technical direction, design leadership and quality assurance from concept and FEED through to detailed design and project delivery. This role offers the opportunity to influence major projects nationally, while helping shape the growth and technical capability of our Mechanical team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical engineering discipline across a diverse portfolio of projects.
- Provide technical direction, design leadership, and quality assurance from concept and FEED through to detailed design and project delivery.
- Drive engineering excellence, manage complex technical challenges, and ensure the delivery of innovative, practical, and commercially sound solutions.
- Work closely with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop strong relationships and deliver successful project outcomes.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers and designers, contributing to capability development.
- Act as a trusted advisor and technical authority, helping deliver projects that leave a lasting impact on communities and critical infrastructure.
- Explore new ways to integrate virtual reality, digital engineering, and artificial intelligence into project delivery.
- Manage technical risk, review and approve engineering deliverables, and ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and client requirements.
Requirements
- Extensive experience delivering complex building services projects within defence, commercial, transport, healthcare, industrial, education, or major infrastructure sectors.
- Strong background in HVAC and mechanical building services design.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and provide strategic technical direction on complex engineering challenges.
- Recognized ability to build trusted client relationships, influence project outcomes, and deliver high-quality solutions in demanding environments.
- Experience managing technical risk, reviewing and approving engineering deliverables, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and client requirements.
- Exposure to condition assessments, design assurance, safety-in-design principles, equipment selection, and major project delivery will be highly regarded.
- Extensive mechanical building services design experience, with strong knowledge of local industry standards, requirements, and Australian codes.
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams and deliver complex projects to scope, budget, and programme.
- Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, design reviews, quality assurance, and mentoring to engineers and designers.
- Strong client-facing skills, with experience building and maintaining trusted relationships with key stakeholders.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or working towards Chartership with a demonstrated commitment to achieving it.
- Australian Citizens will only be considered due to Defence project involvement.
