About the Role
Flexport is shaping the future of global trade with innovative technology and exceptional people. We are seeking a driven individual to manage ocean carrier procurement, driving strategy, negotiations, and cost reduction to ensure seamless global commerce.
Responsibilities
- Drive ocean carrier procurement for a specific tradelane and manage relationships with carriers.
- Coordinate and negotiate allocation procurement activities on various timeframes.
- Contribute to global carrier strategy and align tradelane strategies.
- Develop long-term partnerships with ocean carriers, highlighting Flexport's advantages.
- Reduce procurement costs.
- Provide supply forecasts to meet demand.
- Build scalable procurement operating rhythms and tools.
- Partner with Technology teams to develop next-generation procurement systems.
- Drive global process standardization and improvement initiatives.
- Educate the Flexport organization on carrier and tradelane intelligence.
- Manage a team of procurement associates.
- Lead cross-team meetings.
- Initiate system and process improvements for the team.
- Develop future ocean procurement experts at Flexport.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Pricing, Planning, and District Management teams to optimize the Ocean P&L.
Requirements
- 7+ years of prior Ocean Freight experience at a top freight forwarder or carrier OR 7+ years of supply chain experience with a BA/BS Degree.
- Strategic vision and ground-floor execution capabilities.
- Demonstrated bias to action, process, structure, and data.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Obsession with client happiness.
- Ability to travel regionally, nationally, and internationally.
