About the Role
The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is primarily responsible for updating and organizing protected patient related health information (PHI). This role involves researching and reviewing data for accuracy and compliance with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements, ensuring complete and accurate patient records, empowering clinical teams, maintaining compliance with privacy laws, and responding to patient requests.
Responsibilities
- Update and organize protected patient related health information (PHI).
- Research and review data in hardcopy and electronic format for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure Jordan Health maintains complete and accurate patient records in the electronic medical records system.
- Ensure Jordan Health clinical teams are empowered to provide appropriate patient care.
- Ensure Jordan Health is in full compliance with applicable federal and state privacy laws when responding to requests for patient information.
- Ensure Jordan Health medical records team is responsive to patient requests for assistance.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED/Enrolled in a Health Information Technology degree program or Medical Office Assistant Certification course and/or two years of experience in an HIM/medical record department or healthcare office setting with Release of Information/Correspondence preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- RHIT/Medical Office Assisting Certification preferred.
Skills
- Proficient computer skills
- Experience working in an electronic medical record (EMR) system preferred.
- Familiar with HIPPA privacy rules
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to read and interpret medical records, forms, and authorizations
- Quality focus and deadline driven
