About the Role

The Prevention Specialist will assess the needs of at-risk community members, educate them using evidence-based programs, and identify/counsel participants based on defined risk factors. This role requires daily travel throughout Staten Island and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Facilitate individual and group counseling
Attend and participate in professional development and staff training
Implement and assist in the creation of evidence-based curriculum
Conduct assessments and complete prevention counseling paperwork in a timely manner
Complete documentation corresponding to delivery of prevention services
Monitor data collection and attendance records; accurately maintain record keeping
Demonstrate positive leadership and act as a positive role model
Provide and create engagement within the community and target population participants by providing outreach support
Publicly address community members in a public forum to educate and market prevention services
Develop, enforce, and teach age-appropriate social, physical, and emotional behaviors
Complete administrative tasks and duties in a timely manner
Provide daily, weekly, and monthly communication updates related to Prevention via email and departmental meetings
Abide by all safety protocols as outlined by OASAS, Department of Health/OCFS, DYCD, and UAU
Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

Must be 18 years or older
Reliable mode of transportation
Valid driver's license
Ability to work on community outreach and administrative tasks
Willing and able to take initiative and allow for a flexible work schedule, including some nights and occasional weekends
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time
Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
Ability to observe details at close range

Skills

Fluent SPANISH Speaking is a PLUS
Experience using Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint, Google Drive and remote video platforms
Strong verbal, problem solving and written communication skills
Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently, including meeting deadlines, while contributing to a collaborative team effort
Demonstrates an understanding of and values individuals’ different capacities, cultures, and abilities
