About the Role
The Director of Clinical Services manages and oversees the day-to-day operations of the clinical department, plans, implements, and evaluates clinical care systems, and is responsible for client health outcomes. This role provides direct supervision to clinical staff and indirect guidance to other staff regarding clinical programming and treatment expectations to ensure effective and safe therapeutic practices. The Director leads all aspects of the counseling/social work programs, including Psychosocial Assessments, group facilitation, family therapies, and the development, implementation, and review of Treatment Plans. This role also oversees all clinical programs, monitors the multidisciplinary treatment team process, discharge planning, and community resource referral.
Responsibilities
- Plans, develops, and implements evidence-based quality programming, including clinical unit schedules.
- Reviews the progress, quality, and effectiveness of all clinical programs.
- Identifies and prioritizes issues of importance, collaborating with department and corporate leaders.
- Communicates instructions, expectations, and timelines clearly and concisely.
- Provides support and instruction to direct care staff regarding treatment programs and service delivery expectations.
- Ensures clinical programming, staffing, and documentation comply with regulatory agencies and standards of care.
- Establishes methods for evaluating clinical care practices and formulates plans for new or changed programs.
- Serves as Chief Health Care Disparity Officer, identifying and analyzing healthcare disparities and leading reduction activities.
- Leads a team through hiring, orienting, performance assessment, management, motivation, training, scheduling, and coaching.
- Maintains productivity levels aligned with client census.
- Manages staff scheduling and maintains a contingency staffing plan.
- Maintains accountability expectations for self and staff.
- Engages staff in quality and safety basics for sustained compliance.
- Identifies and addresses staff educational needs.
- Holds staff accountable for non-compliance, client safety concerns, attendance, policies, behavior, and code of conduct.
- Provides clinical consultation, oversight of case planning, and care coordination.
- Ensures all clinical staff conduct and document individual, family, and collateral contacts.
- Monitors and reviews discharge plans and after-care for clients.
- Reviews and audits charts for documentation quality and completeness.
- Directs and oversees program operations, making independent decisions requiring clinical expertise.
- Coordinates with marketing to develop and implement a Community Relations and Referral Development Program.
- May provide onsite coverage for other programs, develop new programs, and provide training or case consultation.
- Performs Leadership Rounds to identify and address environment of care, safety, and infection control concerns.
- Maintains awareness of community and market-related activities and competitor activities.
- Responsible for a limited caseload as needed.
- Schedules and facilitates treatment team meetings.
- Provides individual and group supervision to clinicians.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree from an accredited school in a clinical, psychology, or social service-related field.
- Five or more years of experience working in addiction treatment (inpatient or outpatient) with individuals with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders.
- Two years of experience working in settings that provide 24/7 inpatient/residential treatment for individuals with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders is preferred.
- Skills in therapy and assessment.
- Considerable knowledge of social work principles and practice, social health and welfare programs, and laws governing eligibility.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards.
- State-issued licensure required, with a preference for licensure allowing independent practice and supervision.
- CPR certification and de-escalation training required.
- First aid may be required.
- Two or more years of supervisory/management experience, preferably in social/clinical services.
- Strong preference for Supervisory clinical licensure or eligibility to obtain supervisor licensure within 90 days of hire.
