About the Role
Austin Commercial is seeking a Superintendent I for its Austin, Texas Division. This role is crucial for overseeing day-to-day field construction activities and ensuring project success at one of the industry's leading construction firms.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and lead day-to-day field construction activities on assigned jobsite.
- Ensure overall safety at a jobsite, including implementation of safety plans and procedures.
- Review record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schedule to determine project scope, materials, manpower, and equipment needs.
- Plan jobsite physical layout with the project manager for effective space utilization and initiate startup activities.
- Designate areas for cranes, hoists, material storage, and parking.
- Direct field engineers in jobsite survey and layout, ensuring accuracy of dimensional control lines and elevations.
- Plan daily and weekly activities for each craft, providing detailed technical instructions and schedule forecasts.
- Establish procedures for ordering self-performed building materials, supplies, and tools with the project manager.
- Inspect all field construction work, including subcontracted work, ensuring high-quality workmanship and prompt correction of deficiencies.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance in resolving construction problems, investigating alternative methods and materials.
- Assist the project manager in evaluating schedule and cost impacts.
- Assist the project manager in developing manpower and equipment projection charts, monitoring labor costs and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, codes, and company policies.
- Manage scheduling of all governmental inspections required for a certificate of occupancy.
- Assume responsibility for employee health and safety, including first aid, emergency treatment, and hazard correction.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Foster and promote training and development of subordinates.
- Assume a leadership role in career planning and development of project staff.
- Perform project close-out tasks, including punch lists, demobilization, and as-built documents.
- Maintain detailed and accurate daily reports of all field construction activities.
- Administer the company's Safety & Health Manual.
Requirements
- B.S. in construction management/science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education (High School diploma) and experience.
- 6+ years of commercial construction field experience, including direct supervisory experience.
- Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment).
- Proficient with reading plans and specs.
- Ability to build and manage high performing teams.
