About the Role
The Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner demonstrates autonomy while assuming sole accountability and authority to independently communicate a diagnosis, prescribe drugs, and order diagnostic tests. Responsibilities include utilizing advanced knowledge and decision-making skills for comprehensive patient assessment, diagnosis, and management, as well as planning and implementing health promotion and illness prevention strategies for individuals, families, and groups. The role also involves delivering, coordinating, and participating in educational and professional development activities. Additionally, the Nurse Practitioner will provide coverage for UHN’s Virtual Emergency Department, offering care through video visits for urgent, non-life-threatening issues.
Responsibilities
- Utilize and demonstrate advanced knowledge and decision-making skills to conduct comprehensive assessments.
- Diagnose and manage the care of patients.
- Plan and implement strategies to promote health.
- Prevent illness with individuals, families, and groups.
- Deliver, coordinate, and participate in educational and professional development activities/programs.
- Provide coverage for UHN’s Virtual Emergency Department, offering care through video visits for urgent, non-life-threatening issues.

Experience Level
- Five (5) years experience in Emergency Services preferred
- Experience in nursing research methodology
Education Level
- Completion of Masters Degree Program in Nursing (or one semester from completion)
- Registered Nurse (EC) certification complete or pending
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) Adult or Primary Care certificate complete or pending
- Current Certificate of Competence with College of Nurses of Ontario
- Membership in the Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) organizations relevant to the role
- Canadian Nurses Association certification in Emergency Nursing preferred
Salary/Compensations
- $66.40 - $79.27 per hour
