About the Role

WWD's Beauty Inc seeks a reporter in its New York office to cover product launches, events, trending news, and business stories within the beauty industry. The role involves cultivating industry contacts, breaking news, developing trend stories, and monitoring cultural events and social media for beauty coverage. Occasional reporting for WWD's fashion and event sections is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch, write, and report 3 to 5 trending and/or news stories per day.
  • Work directly with WWD's editors on stories.
  • Write evergreen stories and product roundups.
  • Stay up-to-the-minute on news and generate original story ideas.
  • Perform under high-pressure conditions.
  • Apply best practices for SEO to optimize readership.
  • Assist in building online features such as lists.
  • Work with the team to optimize social media content.

Requirements

  • At least one year of writing and reporting experience.
  • Ability to identify time-sensitive news.
  • Proven experience in writing concise, accurate news items.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Must be a quick writer.
  • Ability to generate news and trends stories.
  • An understanding of good journalism practices (fact-checking, copy-editing, sourcing).
  • An understanding of best practices for SEO and content optimization.

Salary/Compensations

  • $66,500 - $70,000
