About the Role

This is a citywide exam posting for the Protective Services Worker (PSW) role within the Adult Protective Services (APS) program. The PSW investigates reports of suspected elder and dependent adult abuse, performing professional investigations and case management services to victims. This role is crucial in evaluating harm, assessing biopsychosocial functioning, and orchestrating services to protect victims.

Responsibilities

Conducts unannounced visits to elders and dependent adults in their living environment.
Investigates allegations and conducts risk assessments through interviews.
Arranges for immediate protective interventions and emergency services.
Gathers, documents, and reviews financial, personal, and confidential information.
Writes investigative reports, findings, and service plan notes.
Conducts needs assessments for clients requiring protective services.
Develops Service Plans and organizes initial care plans, including supported decision-making.
Provides counseling to clients and significant others to address problems and implement service plans.
Monitors Service Plans and follows up through field visits and telephone contacts.
Assists with multidisciplinary team meetings with healthcare providers and other agencies.
Designs interventions in collaboration with medical professionals, social service providers, and law enforcement.
Provides education to individuals and agencies on the role and authority of APS.
Conducts public presentations about casework in a confidential, multi-disciplinary setting.
Collaborates and cooperates with the community and CCSF partner agencies.
Uses a personal computer to prepare, review, and maintain records, correspondence, and reports.
Manages case documentation in an APS database.
Maintains timely email correspondence.

Requirements

Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); OR Master's Degree from a two (2) year counseling program from an accredited college or university.
Satisfactory completion of two semesters of graduate field placement involving direct services to elders and/or dependent adults and/or adults with physical, cognitive or mental health disabilities in specific related areas; OR Six (6) months post-baccalaureate professional work experience providing direct services to elders, dependent adults, or adults in described areas.
Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements by the time the application is submitted unless a written request for waiver is provided pending receipt of the Master's degree.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Ability and skill to assess.
Knowledge of psycho-social functioning development, individual psychodynamics, family dynamics, and social systems.
Knowledge of socio-economics factors.
Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant laws.
Ability to assess client's functioning, safety, and develop an appropriate case plan.
