About the Role
Transitional Services for New York, Inc. (TSINY) is a non-profit mental health services agency seeking a Part-time Night Counselor for one of its Residential Programs in Jamaica, Queens, NY. This role involves providing oversight of the program during overnight shifts, ensuring resident safety and well-being, and assisting with daily routines and crisis management.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight of the program on the overnight shift.
- Complete room checks to determine resident count and status.
- Conduct chart audits and maintain resident back charts.
- Provide crisis management during overnight hours.
- Assist residents in preparing for daytime activities.
- Converse with the outgoing shift for pertinent information.
- Inform residents of medical, psychiatric, or financial appointments.
- Supervise morning medication administration and initial the medication book.
- Follow shift change procedures and checklists.
- Record staff absences or lateness.
- Check staff revised schedules, email, and personal mailbox.
- Intervene in resident crisis situations.
- Assist residents with meal preparation as needed.
- Report pertinent resident and facility information to the shift supervisor.
- Document pertinent resident information in the Communication Book.
- Monitor residents' bathing, showering, and hygiene.
- File all chart items into appropriate charts.
- Facilitate back charting.
- Conduct medication reviews and check the Medication Book for initials.
- Meet with supervisor as scheduled.
- Participate in and supervise residents during fire drills.
- Inspect residents' rooms for safety and report any damages or problems.
- Conduct monthly chart reviews as assigned.
- Complete CPR/First Aid training.
- Manage forms, including copying new ones and disposing of old ones.
- Call in medication refills.
- Prepare information for shredding.
- Conduct regular building tours to check cleanliness and needed repairs.
- Complete work orders.
- Complete and submit incident reports on the same day of the incident.
- Submit receipts for petty cash expenses.
- Attend special on-site and off-site training, seminars, and conferences.
- Be available to residents on an as-needed and crisis basis.
- Submit requests for time off at least two weeks in advance.
- Check revised schedules for potential changes in hours/shifts and holiday coverage.
- Return correspondence requiring a signature.
- Familiarize with personnel policy, emergency manuals, and training manuals.
- Provide supervision for residents during dining hours.
- Ensure residents are dressed appropriately before leaving the facility.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- NYS Driver’s License with a clean record required.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
