About the Role

The 4-H Youth Development Educator will serve as a member of the 4-H Youth Development team to assist with the delivery and evaluation of educational programs and activities. The role involves promoting program objectives and plans with an emphasis on 4-H Camp, Spark Programming, the BOCES Co-Ser, and 4-H Club Programming.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality, established 4-H Youth Development educational programs and events.
  • Assist in delivering innovative educational programs to impact audiences through various methods.
  • Participate in special events including 4-H Leader training, County Fair, State Fair, 4-H Fundraising, Public Presentations, Achievement Night, and enrollment campaigns.
  • Apply existing subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans for educational programs.
  • Utilize a variety of educational methods including direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource utilizing existing resources and materials.
  • Foster acceptance of program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs.
  • Provide educational program efforts via mass media, including contributing articles to 4-H newsletters, emails, phone messages, and website postings.
  • Interact with program participants representing CCE in a professional manner.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities in a professional manner.
  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Interact with program participants, association staff, program committees, county/community leaders, and other key stakeholders to collect evaluation data.
  • Assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement.
  • Communicate evaluation results and findings.
  • Assist with identifying activities and resources necessary to implement initiatives and projects.
  • Provide supervisor with program-related information to assist the budget development process.
  • May provide input to planning budgets and assist in identifying opportunities for 4-H fund development.
  • Assist in identifying and recommending program needs (e.g., program supplies and materials).
  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts within the 4-H Youth Development program.
  • Assist with ensuring volunteer direction and management procedures are followed.
  • Coordinate, compile, assemble, and organize program resources and teaching materials.
  • Coordinate administrative tasks to support the delivery of educational program goals.
  • Maintain communication with constituents and the community through various methods.
  • Collect and reconcile event and program receipts and monies.
  • Prepare program expense reports.
  • Act as a contact for Volunteers and Volunteer Leaders within the County.
  • Maintain professional relationships with other agencies, organizations, and businesses.
  • Provide information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all sensitive information.
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.
  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories.
  • Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.
  • Jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan with the Supervisor.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events.
  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow applicable regulations and association health and safety policies.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors.
  • Collaborate in activities in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Adhere to established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes and Skills for Success.
  • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Perform all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent Education (Associate degree plus 2 years transferrable, relevant program/functional experience may substitute).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
  • Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences in group settings.
  • Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, advisors, community, and professional leaders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and tactfully through verbal, written and electronic methods.
  • Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.
  • Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks, deadlines, requirements, and priorities.
  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation.
  • Coursework in Education, Agriculture, and/or Human/Youth Development.
  • Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.
  • Experience working with and collaborating with volunteers.
  • Experience in 4-H and/or FFA.
  • No relocation or VISA Sponsorship available.
